Ive been seduced by Armarni

I'm beginning to miss my old photography lessons. Recently I've been doing alot of studying fashion advertisements, regarding styling shoots and how customers perceive a brand.
At first glance many of us don't really take into account what an image is trying to say to us, we purely make judgement based on our own ideas and then don't make a second thought about the image. It's only when you really disect the image bit by bit do u realise how purposeful it was made to be.
Take Armarni for example. The Armarni code perfume ad is one i have never taken a second glance at, it was only today when we looked at its separate elements i realised its power.

It has a limited palette, to blacks and midnight blues, colours which highlight power and strength (think of the suits worn in politics). The light directly hits her face and highlights her bright blue eyes, intentionally blue to draw u to the perfume bottle. The light hits her naked shoulder which immediately conjours up seductive sexual thoughts. As this fades into darkness u are led to the brand name. All the elements to tell the consumer this is a powerful fragrance for a strong woman.
From know on i will make the effort of taking at least a second or third glance at an image that captures my eye. Purely in respect to the photographer and creative minds for the pure efforts that were put into it to catch my eye in the first place.

Babybird

A truly classic British indie rocker band who formed in 1995, fronted by Stephen Jones that i have only just come across.
Better late than never, right?!
Just released their new Album Ex-manic.
I have definitely heard the single 'Like them', most likely while shopping in Topshop, who always have the must listen to play list of the moment.
I like the rawness of the band, a little like Babyshambles but more softer (and in tune) and i won't get dodgy looks listening to this from my friends.....i don't think.
Take a listen on their Myspace page.

I want a new tattoo

Watching the lovely Fearne Cotton interview the even lovelier Johnny Depp on Radio 1 Movies Blog, i discovered they share the same tattoo artist; Marc Mahoney is one of the founding fathers of black and grey tattoo art, alongside johnny depp Mark has inked only Hollywood's finest from Brad and Angelina, Birtney, Fred durst to Mickey Rourke.

Mark Mahoney's Shamrock Social Club

I believe tattoos should be meaningful and thought through. You've got to remember that things going to be on your forever. My two tattoos took me alot of thought, but i couldn't be happier. A small heart outline on the side of my wrist i got with my mum because we would always doodle hearts when i was younger. The word 'Freedom' on my inner arm below my elbow to signify what i have learnt in the past year at university and living life the way i want to.

If i had the money and time I'd travel to Miami ink to see Ami James who is an unbelievably talented tattoo artist as well as very nice to look at, which i can imagine would help going through the painful experience.

just a taster....but i want more!

A lot to catch up on...

First things first.
Burberry Prorsum was the most amazing experience of my life. Its given me a true taster of what the fashion world is like, and now i want more! The atmosphere there was indescribable, the room was buzzing with photographers, journalists, editors, stylists, models and celebrities. Where to them it is a social event, to mingle and network. True to British weather it rained, and as guests entered the Chelsea College of Art venue the weather continued with a soundtrack of pouring rain.
for A/W 2010 boots get higher and coats get shorter. Bailey created an army of cadet girls dressed in officer coats and sheepskin flying jackets detailed in buckles and zips. The military look was softened up with delicate skin tight lace dresses and jewel tones in lime green, raspberry pink and midnight blue. An ultra cool wearable collection that is made to stand the test of time, if you invest in anything other than a Burberry mac make sure its the brass buttoned military coat.
Burberry took the future forward step in going 3D live to viewers in New York, Tokyo, L.A and Dubai, giving a nod to today's culture of super-fast availability.
To think that i was sat in that room blows my mind.
i could easily get used to this lifestyle.
P.S My claim to fame...Anna Wintour and Kate Hudson were sat just 6 people in front of me!

pinch me, this isn't real

Sat innocently in my lecture, when my tutor appears explaining how they have drawn out of a hat, three names from our class to go to Burberry Prorsum fashion show at London fashion week this year. Everybody perked up at hearing this.
It was one of them moments you think 'This is never going to happen to me' when i heard, 'Emily Wilson'.
Excuse me?!
What?
ME?
Yes, Me. I will be at Burberry Prorsum's fashion show on feb 23rd! An absolute dream, and a foot in the door.
Somebody slap me...this doesn't feel real.

it rains alot in scotland

Pringle video
An interesting and extremely weird take on Pringle's company values.
The Gerald the alcoholic and the dancing goat definitely beats any promotions I've ever seen.

Sales galore

Why do i even bother? I hate shopping on busy Saturdays. I hate the pushing and shoving.
So why did i even bother heading into Manchester on the most chaotic shopping day of the year!? I was asking myself this question all morning, as i got elbowed left right and centre around a topshop rail. I didn’t want it last season so why would i want it now? Walk away Emily, walk away.
I am in complete awe of a shopper with a great sale find. A piece that isn't from two years ago, is half price and an investment. This is an event that rarely happens, but have faith, it does! And for once, it happened to me.
French Connection, the only sale on the high street where i didn’t have to tackle through rails of 3 summers ago vest tops, whilst dodging two women squabbling over last season’s mini. I had the space to browse and undeniably enjoy a sale.
The half price New Years Eve dress from £120 is sale perfect.
I can’t wait to brag that i hit the January sales and succeeded in what every shopper dreams of doing, bagging that January sale item your proud of.
The only advice i give to anyone willing to trawl the January sales, is hit the designers! Yes you have to queue early but you’re getting quality, at high street prices.
